Minutes of the Interim Committee Meeting
Held 27 Oct., 2011 at Waverley Bridge Club
Meeting opened: 2.30 p.m.
Present: Arthur Robbins, Quentin van Abbe, Jan Hackett, Yvonne Minton
Apologies: Clive Hope, Brian Morgan, Stephen Weisz
Minutes: minutes of the last meeting were circulated
Points raised:
Question of adding members to the IC. Quentin to approach Neil Ewert to attend to financial matters. Try to keep ties between VBA and IC if possible.
Discussion of involving clubs throughout the state. Quentin noted we must keep clubs informed of what we are doing. Suggested sending out minutes. Thought some might see it as an FABCV venture. Arthur thought we should emphasise our concerns – lack of democracy, lack of planning for state events. Noted that some areas are improving, eg teams playoff. Quentin agreed we need club support but suggested we need to show what it goes to.
Yvonne noted the VBA’s reticence to disclose information, eg sponsorship of ANC. Jan commented it seems to be reactive not proactive – no real plan for future of bridge. VBA will cover losses from VCC, but it was noted that the VBA did not ask clubs to contribute tables.
Reports from committees –
Arthur MTC committee - not able to attend VBA committee meetings – same night as other bridge commitment.
Jan and Yvonne promotions – noted Phill Fent is moving in several directions. Seems to be heavily focused on sponsorship. Yvonne mentioned the insurance payback scheme. There was a suggestion for a bridge demonstration at Chadstone which is not going ahead. Jan mentioned that Phill seems to be working on his own rather than consulting the others on the committee. Quentin mentioned that there is no government support for bridge as there is in other states. Jan brought up newspapers and the need to spread the word about the game – possibly through speaking to groups such as Probus. Noted that Laura is running sessions for younger players 6-teens at Waverley.
Finance committee – Doug is unable to continue
Constitution – Stephen many be able to help in this area. Jan to contact Geoff Chettle regarding his notes on constitutional change
Meeting closed: 4.25 p.m.
